The Edo period ‘Bikan Area' is approximately a three minutes' walk from Hotel Nikko Kurashiki. A small and enchanting willow-lined canal meanders through the heart of the area where it is majestically watched-over by an assortment of traditional antique buildings. These beautiful structures are conserved by the National Government and will keep you in good company as you explore the traditional Japanese culture of the Bikan Area.

The world famous Ohara Museum was founded in 1930 as the first gallery of Western art in Japan. The main collection, housed in a building styled after a Greek temple, includes El Greco’s "The Annunciation", "Waterlilies" by Monet and over 100 other notable works of such masters as Matisse, Renoir, Gauguin, and Picasso. The various annexes include a collection of modern Japanese art.

This restored granary building, representative of the Bikan Historical Area, and complimenting the willows and Nakabashi bridge, houses the finest collection of archaeological finds from the Kibi area and materials related to archaeology. |

As the museum's name indicates, it houses folk crafts --objects made by ordinary people for daily use-- and the enormous collection includes objects both new and old from all over the world, used in connection with such basic human needs as food, clothing and shelter.
The museum itself consists of three structures linked by connecting corridors, and the spacious interiors are given to displays arranged with regard to the shape, color, material, region of origin, technique and era of the various objects. |

Children of all ages will find this charming museum an enjoyable journey into the imagination. The colorful collection of over 40,000 toys, dolls, and games from Japan and around the world was put together and 5,000 items among them are displayed. This treasure trove of childhood wonders is housed in a meticulously restored granary building. |

Achi Shrine is sacredness and quiet place enclosed by forest in the north of Bikan area. There are an ancient garden, wistaria trellis which blooms in May. |

The square in red brick structure with ivy was built in Meiji era. It is possible to take a rest free of charge. Also you can see many small turtles in the pond. |

The house was built in Edo era, around 1796, one of traditional house called 'Machiya' in Kurashiki. There is next at our hotel and our restaurant 'Hachiken-gura' has used this warehouse.
The house is specified from government as the important cultural asset. |

【Okayama Korakuen Garden】
Lord Tsunamasa of the Ikeda Clan of Okayama took more than ten years to complete this great garden noteable for its serene beauty. It is one of Japan's three most celebrated landscaped gardens as well as a national scenic beauty. You can enjoy flowers of each season planted in the garden and the solemn sight of Okayama Castle can be seen from the garden.

A warring lord named Hideie Ukita completed Okayama Castle. It is known as U jo, or the “Crow Castle” for its striking black exterior. Inside the castle tower is an exhibition space. There is a superb panoramic view of Okayama City from the top floor of the castle. |
